If Dr. Schoenfeld has ordered a 24 hour urine test that requires you to be on a special diet for one week before the collection of your urine. This diet is low in calcium, sodium, and oxalate. Reducing the amount of these substances in your diet for one week will help your doctor determine what may be the cause of your kidney stone problem.
For the seven days prior to your urine collection you should not eat more than 400 mg of calcium or 100 meq of sodium per day. You will also need to limit the amount of foods containing oxalate. The information on the following pages will help you decide what you can and cannot eat to meet the following diet limitations.
